Quilava (Japanese: マグマラシ Magmarashi) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation Two.

It evolves from Cyndaquil starting at level fourteen (Generations II to VII, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl) or level 17 (Legends: Arceus) and evolves into Typhlosion starting at level 36.

In Hisui, Quilava evolves into Hisuian Typhlosion starting at level 36.

Biological science

Quilava without its flames lit

Quilava is a quadrupedal Pokémon with a long, slender body. The top half of its body is a dark blue-green, while its underside is cream-colored. It has triangular ears with nighttime red interiors, a rounded snout, and triangular red eyes. Each of its paws has 3 toes. It has five carmine spots on its body that tin can projection flames: two arranged vertically on its forehead and 3 lined up horizontally on its rear.

Earlier a battle, Quilava turns its back so its flames face its opponent. It battles using these intense flames in combination with gusts of superheated air. Its own fur is not-flammable, which protects it from other fire attacks. Quilava tends to be rare in the wild, but can sometimes be found living on grasslands. The fur of Quilava is said to be very mysterious due to its amnesty to fire. When exposed to the mysterious energy of Mountain Coronet in Hisui, Quilava goes through a huge alter. When it evolves into Hisuian Typhlosion, its gains at the power of Ghost-types.

Trivia

  • Quilava shares its category with its evolved form and Entei. They are all known every bit the Volcano Pokémon.
    • Coincidentally, they all are capable of learning Eruption.
  • Jeff Kalles, who assisted in the naming of many Generation Ii Pokémon, suggested the English name for Quilava. According to Kalles, he suggested the name because Nintendo and The Pokémon Company wanted a Pokémon for every letter of the alphabet of the alphabet.[1] [2]

Origin

Quilava's body is similar to most animals in the weasel family, particularly stoats due to its lack of a tail and the fur on its upper body existence significantly darker than that on its underbelly with elements of a badger. All the same, the pattern distribution and shape of Quilava's flames closely resembles the quills and crest of the crested porcupine, peculiarly in its earlier sprites. It may likewise be based on volcanoes due to its triangular profile when standing upwards and the power to acquire Smokescreen and Eruption.

Proper noun origin

Quilava is a combination of quill (a needle-like pilus) and lava (extrusive molten rock).

Magmarashi is a combination of magma and ヤマアラシ (山荒) yama-arashi (porcupine).
